It's time to get excited, very excited. SNK Playmore's New Hardware of choice is here. Harnessing the power of Taito's Type (X) X2 SNK Playmore Corp. has planned a to take their fighting games to the next level. First up is their King of Fighters Maximum Impact: Regulation A.
What's the big deal with Taito's Type (X2) X² system? A few things:
SNK Playmore has announced 3 more titles to arrive on TTX² after KOF MIRA: Samurai Shodown VI, King of Fighters XII and KOF MIRA 2. We're extremely pumped not by the announcement of the upcoming releases, but what this truly means. From year's past, common development practice was to use rehashed sprites and game engines. For future TTX² titles from SNK Playmore, development will be from the ground up.
Spectacular graphics is the least of the expectations as SNK Playmore's upcoming titles will bring a new level of dynamics and game play experience. We haven't been this excited since the anticipation of the release for Samurai Shodown II and we're not kidding about this either.
KOF MIRA on Taito Type X² System vs. Sony PS2
For the purest fighting game fan, if you want to experience pure arcade quality, this is it.
At our Oni-Con 2007 Show, feedback from fans/gamers was positive on KOF MIRA. Most agreed that this installment was a huge improvement over the previous 3-D fighters that SNK Playmore has released as this game literally plays like a 2-D fighter.
Some notes:
Initially, the Taito Type (X2) X2 is sold as a package with KOF MIRA. This system consists of the motherboard and an interchangeable hard disk drive (which is the software itself), up and down scan converter and full artwork for KOF MIRA. For future titles, such as KOF MIRA 2, Samurai Shodown Sen (VII in the U.S.) and King of Fighters XII can be purchased separately.
Addtional Accessories you may need:
Up/Down Scan Converter: If you have a high resolution monitor, you will not need this. Factory Atomiswave and Naomi cabinets are carry high resolution monitors right off the bat. Most cabinets out on the market (at least in the U.S. are low resolution). You can also modify your cabinet with a LCD or Plasma screen to work with the Taito TX2 system, as it has DVI out. We highly suggest running this system on a high resolution monitor to do it justice. If you opt not to upgrade your monitor, this converter is what you need. Email us for the price on this.
JVS Sound Amplifier: As far as we know, no cabinet produced in the U.S. supply this. Atomiswave and Naomi dedicated cabinets easily accept this amplifier with little or no modification. External powered speakers and subwoofer can be connected to this, such as computer speakers if you do not want to solder any wires for sound. Email for pricing.
At this time, the Taito Type X2 system is sold as a bundle with KOF MIRA only. The UP/DOWN Scan converter and JVC Sound amplifier can be purchased separately.
Some Q and A's:
Q: Will I be able to purchase future software separately?
A: Yes, future software, at least from SNK Playmore will be sold separately. Most likely, other third parties will follow the same structure as well. (Software is a hard disk drive with security key).
We will update our Q and A section as time goes on. We're doing some independent research on other connection possibilities for home use and will post up our findings soon.
