After King of Fighters '98 many SNK fans didn't think there would be another King of Fighters that would meet or surpass their expectations.  The next 3 years after KOF '98 brought lackluster results from it's fans, hence SNK went back to the drawing boards and created KOF 2002, which some fans consider better than KOF '98. 

 

With improved graphics, character animation and game play, King of Fighters 2002 brought the excitement back and was praised by many fighting game fans that it saw tournament play. 

 

The next year, 2003, SNK added some new characters from the Mark of the Wolves series and brought back the tagging system that was much improved over KOF '99-01.  As a combo pack, thus far, this is the best King of Fighters you can buy in a single pack. 

 

For the PS2 versions, both King of Fighters 2002 and 2003 received some upgrades, such as brand new 3-D backgrounds and bonus features.
