For certain games, Capcom just had to produce their CPS2 games in one contained board, without the hassle of always having an "A" Board with a "B" board. Because Marvel vs. Capcom was so popular, it was cost effective and easier to ship the newly designed VA board, which is one single board that utilized their CPS2 technology.
These boards are less common than the separate "B" board and is much more compact that two boards put together.
As for the game itself, well, it's legacy among players speaks for itself. Play this game a few times and it'll remind you of how addicting this game still is.
